LOCATION - Lat 48°05'58", long 98°54'10" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NE 1/4 sec.5, T.153 N., R.64 W., Ramsey County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 09020201, at Creel Bay pump station on northeast bank of Creel Bay, 2.0 mi southwest of the city of Devils Lake.

DRAINAGE AREA - 3,130 mi² of which 1,000 mi² probably is noncontributing.

REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1913: Drainage area.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - 1867, 1879, 1883, 1887, 1890, 1896 (one gage height for each year), 1901-63 (fragmentary), 1964 to current year.

GAGE -

The datum of the gage is 1401.33 ft above North American Vertical Datum 1988 (NAVD88 GNSS survey by USGS, October 1, 2021) and 1400.00 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum 1929 (NGVD29).

REMARKS -

Gage heights are frequently affected by wind.

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, published stage records are good, except for the 2021 water year, when record was fair.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - The lake level was at an elevation of about 1,441 ft around 1830 and lower thereafter. Reference is Geological Survey monograph, volume XXV, the Glacial History of Lake Agassiz by Warren Upham.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum gage height recorded, 1,454.61 ft, August 1, 2011, wind aided; maximum daily gage height, 1,454.30 ft, June 27, 2011; minimum observed gage height, 1,400.87 ft, October 24, 1940.
