SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

LOCATION.--Lat 40°50'42", long 74°20'50" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Parsip-Troy Hills Twp, Morris County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030103, on left upstream wingwall of former bridge on Edwards Road, 200 ft downstream from bridges of Interstate 280, 0.4 mi upstream from Rockaway River, and 1.2 mi southwest of Pine Brook.
DRAINAGE AREA.--68.5 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Low-flow partial-record station water years 1963-69, 1973, 1979-96. November 1992 to September 1996 (gage height and discharge measurements only). Continuous-record gaging station, October 1996 to current year.
REVISED RECORDS.--WYS-US-2015: 1997.
GAGE.--Water-stage, velocity (from 2005 to current), and water temperature recorder with telemetry and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 162 ft above NGVD of 1929 (from Corps of Engineers' topographic map).
REMARKS.--Records fair, except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Flow includes sewage effluent from several treatment plants upstream of gage. Stage-discharge relationship is affected by variable-stage backwater from the Passaic River. Water diverted upstream at Clyde Potts Reservoir on Harmony Brook for municipal supply by the Southeast Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge 2,080 ft3/s, estimated, Oct 20, 1996, maximum recorded gage height, 12.54 ft, Aug 30, 2011, from high-water mark, a higher gage height may have occurred during flood of Oct 20, 1996; minimum discharge, not determined.
REVISIONS.--Revisions subsequent to Water Year 2014 can be obtained by using this link.

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD.--Water years 1963 to current year.
REMARKS.--Discrete water-quality data were collected as part of the New Jersey Ambient Surface-Water-Quality Monitoring Network.

The water temperature data for this station are temporary and will only be displayed for 120 days. Although the instrumentation is calibrated at least once/year, the temporary classification means that documented routine inspections and other quality assurance measures are not performed that would make the data acceptable for archival, retrieval, or future use in general scientific or interpretive studies.

This station is subject to backwater from the Passaic River during periods of high flow. At low flows diurnal fluctuations are noted and are probably due to patterns of sewage effluent entering the stream at several points upstream of gage.

This station managed by the New Jersey Water Science Center.
