01054000 ANDROSCOGGIN RIVER NEAR GORHAM, NH

LOCATION - Lat 44°26'09", long 71°11'25" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Coos County, NH, Hydrologic Unit 01040001, on right bank at Pulsifer Rips, 2.2 mi downstream from Dead River, and 4.0 mi upstream from Gorham.

DRAINAGE AREA - 1,361 mi².

REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR ME-81-1: Drainage area. WDR ME-97-1: 1913-28(M)

Discharge for the period of Dec. 14 to Dec. 26, 2017 was revised on June 15, 2018, as it was determined estimates were needed due to backwater from ice effect.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - DISCHARGE: October 1913 to current year. October 1922 to September 1928, monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1301. Discharges for December 1917 not used in long-term statistics because of unknown discharge on Dec. 25, 1917. Prior to October 1928, published as "at Berlin."

GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 832.88 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to Sept. 30, 1922, nonrecording gage showing head and tailwater elevations at site 3 mi upstream at different datum.

REMARKS - Flow regulated by Rangeley, Mooselookmeguntic, Richardson, Aziscohos, and Umbagog Lakes, with final regulation at Errol Dam 35 mi upstream. Diurnal fluctuations caused by power plant 0.8 mi upstream.

Water Year 2016: Records good, except for periods of ice effect, Dec. 29-31, Jan. 4-9, 12-29, and Feb. 12-16, 22-24, which are fair.

Water Year 2015: Records good, except for periods of ice effect, Dec. 20-21, and Dec. 31 to Apr. 2, which are fair.

Water Year 2014: Records good, except for periods of ice effect, Dec. 12-21, Dec. 31 to Jan. 11, Jan. 22 to Feb. 2, Feb. 7-13, Feb. 17 to Mar. 8, Mar. 13-19, and 24-28, which are fair.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 21,900 ft³/s, estimated, Apr. 30, 1923; minimum daily discharge, leakage only, Dec. 25, 1917, when gates in dam were closed.
