LOCATION - Lat 42°50'33", long 71°42'26" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Hillsborough County, NH, Hydrologic Unit 01070002, on right bank, 0.2 mi west of NH 101 (Milford Bypass), North River Road, and Elm Street (NH 101A) intersection, 1.6 mi east of Main Street and Maple Street intersection in Wilton, 1.6 mi upstream from mouth of Purgatory Brook, 1.9 mi downstream from mouth of Stony Brook, and 3.0 mi west of Elm Street(NH 101A), Union Square (NH 13), South Street (NH 13), and Nashua Street (NH 101A) intersection in Milford.
DRAINAGE AREA - 103 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge records: June 1994 to September 1996, May 2008 to current year. Miscellaneous discharge measurements only: Water years 1984, 1988, 1989, and 1991.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 264.32 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
COOPERATION - New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services and USGS Groundwater and Streamflow Information Program.
REMARKS - Water Years 2014-23: records good except those for estimated discharges, which are poor. Some regulation by mill upstream. High flow slightly affected by retarding reservoirs.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of April 16, 2007, reached a stage of 12.49 ft, from floodmarks, discharge, 6,950 ft³/s, based on contracted-opening measurement upstream of gage.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 5,530 ft³/s, October 30, 2017, gage height, 11.19 ft.
