LOCATION - Lat 42°21'44", long 71°04'43" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Middlesex County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 01090001, on left bank of the Charles River, 100 feet downstream from Longfellow Bridge, at intersection of Broad Canal and First St bridge, 2.2 mi southeast of Cambridge.
DRAINAGE AREA - 308 mi² of which 24 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 2007 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with telephone telemeter. Datum of gage is Boston City Base. Subtract 106.68 ft to adjust gage height to elevation of North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Planning and Engineering.
REMARKS - Records good. Missing periods are not estimated. Daily or more frequent fluctuations of stage in the Lower Charles River Basin are due to operation of locks and pumps at the New Charles River Dam, located 0.8 mi downstream.
