LOCATION - Lat 41°59'27", long 70°44'03" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Plymouth County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 01090002, on left bank 100 ft downstream from Elm Street Bridge at Kingston and 2.8 mi upstream from mouth.

DRAINAGE AREA - 19.8 mi² of which 4.10 mi² probably is noncontributing.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: August 1966 to current year; water-quality records, water years 1970-71.

GAGE - Data Collection Platform with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage is 3.94 ft above NAVD 1988, from levels by Massachusetts Department of Public Works. Datum previously reported as 4.76 ft above NGVD 1929, from levels by Massachusetts Department of Public Works.

COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources.

REMARKS - Records fair except those for estimated discharge, which are poor. Flow regulated by pond upstream. Flow affected by diversion of water from Silver Lake (4.10 mi²) for Brockton, Whitman, and Hanson municipal supply. Flow affected at times by spillage from Silver Lake. This stream drains from a ground-water basin which is larger or smaller than, and not coincident with, the surface-water basin. Occasional backwater from tidal surge.

Maximum flow of 575 ft³/s on March 19, 1968 from rating curve extended above 370 ft³/s.
