LOCATION - Lat 42°38'18", long 72°43'32" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Franklin County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 01080203, on right bank in Shattuckville, 1.2 mi south of Griswoldville, and 1.3 mi upstream from mouth at Deerfield River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 89 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1111: 1945(M). WDR MA-RI-84-1: Drainage area. Water year 2011, annual peak discharge.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: October 1939 to current year. October and November 1939 monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1301. Water-quality records: water years 1957, 1967-69, 1994, 2003-05.
GAGE - Data Collection Platform with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage is 457.86 ft above NAVD 1988. Datum previously reported as 458.36 ft above NGVD 1929.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources.
REMARKS - Diurnal fluctuation at times caused by mill upstream; because storage capacity is small, daily flows are not affected appreciably. Prior to 1950, greater regulation by mill.
  • WY2016: Records good, except for periods of ice effect, Jan. 5-9, 13-15, Jan. 19 to Feb. 24, Feb. 27, Mar. 1, Mar. 3-7, and Apr. 5, which are poor.
  • WY2015: Records fair, except for periods of ice effect, Nov. 22, 26-27, Jan. 1 to Mar. 26, which are poor.
  • WY2014: Records good, except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.

  • The 2011 water year peak gage height was determined from a surveyed high-water mark and was not recorded. This value is not included in the computed unit values gage height record.

    Maximum peak flow, 30,300 ft³/s, Aug. 28, 2011, from rating curve extended above 2,900 ft³/s on basis of contracted-opening indirect measurements made at gage heights 9.55 ft and 11.19 ft. Maximum peak stage, 18.17 ft, Aug. 28, 2011, from high water mark.
