LOCATION - Lat 40°36'21", long 74°17'59" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Rahway City, Union County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030104, on right bank, 300 ft upstream of dam on Milton Lake in Rahway, 0.6 mi downstream from Middlesex Reservoir Dam, and 1.6 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 21.6 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Continuous-record gaging station, water years 1940-96. Continuous-record gage-height station with annual maximum discharge, water years 1999 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with telemetry. Datum of gage is 19.99 ft above NGVD of 1929.
REMARKS - Middlesex Reservoir located 3,200 ft upstream was used by Middlesex Water Company for municipal supply until 1970. Peaks above 1,400 ft³/s from rating curve extension on basis of flow over dam computation of peak flow at gage height 5.65 ft and from rating curve extended above 2,400 ft³/s based on logarithmic extrapolation. Annual peak data can be obtained by selecting Peak streamflow from the 'Available data for this site' drop-down menu above or by using this link.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 5,600 ft³/s, Aug 28, 2011, gage height, 6.56 ft, from rating curve extended above 1400 ft³/s on basis of flow over dam computation of peak flow at gage height 5.65 ft and from rating curve extension based on logarithmic extrapolation.
