  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2024
03007800 ALLEGHENY RIVER AT PORT ALLEGANY, PA
LOCATION - Lat 41°49'07", long 78°17'35" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, McKean County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010001, on right bank 40 ft upstream from bridge on U.S. Highway 6 at Port Allegany, 1.1 mi upstream from Twomile Creek, 1.4 mi downstream from Allegheny Portage Creek, at river mile 285.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 248 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1974 to current year. Discharge measurements available from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers March 1971 to October 1974.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, water-quality monitor, and heated tipping bucket precipitation gage. Datum of gage is 1,454.38 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (from benchmark).  Prior to November 10, 2022, the datum of gage was reported as 1,454.88 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite and landline telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for this station provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Records are good except those for estimated discharge, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Jun 23, 1972 reached a stage of at least 17.5 ft, discharge, 21,700 ft³/s, from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers indirect discharge measurement. Actual peak discharge may have been greater.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2010 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: November 2010 to current year. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: July 2011 to current year (seasonal operation April to October). WATER TEMPERATURE: November 2010 to current year. pH: July 2011 to current year (seasonal operation April to October).
COOPERATION - Water-quality samples were collected as part of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Water-Quality Network (WQN) with cooperation from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
INSTRUMENTATION - Continuous water-quality monitor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval.
REMARKS -

As of October 2013, results from discrete water quality samples collected at this site are available through the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System web interface on the "Water Quality for the Nation" webpage. Analyses for pH, water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen were performed on site. All other sample analyses were performed at the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection laboratory in Harrisburg, PA. Occasionally, values for filtered parameters may exceed values for the corresponding unfiltered parameter. These results are within the limits of analytical precision and methods. Continuous data collection for pH and dissolved oxygen discontinued in winter months. Other interruptions in the records were due to equipment malfunctions or erroneous data. Historically, water temperature below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. Cross-sectional water quality data available upon request.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 320 microsiemens per centimeter, Aug 18, 2019; minimum, 41 microsiemens per centimeter, Dec 1, 2010.
