03020000 TIONESTA CREEK AT TIONESTA DAM, PA

LOCATION - Lat 41°28'40", long 79°26'39" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Forest County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010003, on left bank 100 ft downstream from outlet tunnel at Tionesta Dam, 1.5 mi southeast of Tionesta, and 1.2 mi upstream from mouth.

DRAINAGE AREA - 479 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - 1941-91, 2005-2009 (discharge measurements only), 2010 to current year. Prior to October 1970, published as "at Tionesta Creek Dam".

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,043.0 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (from GNSS survey). Jul 1, 1954 to Dec 6, 1960, water-stage recorder at present site and at datum 1.5 ft higher. See WSP 1305 or 1725 for history of changes prior to Jul 1, 1954. Prior to April 4, 2023, the datum of gage was reported as 1,043.43 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (U. S. Army Corps of Engineers benchmark). Satellite telemetry at station.

COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.

REMARKS - Flow completely regulated since 1941 by Tionesta Lake 0.2 mi upstream. Records good except for estimated daily discharges which are poor.

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: October 2007 to current year.

INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature sensor interfaced with a data collection platform with 60-minute recording interval.

REMARKS -

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

Records for water year 2014 water temperature are rated good. For water year 2015, records for water temperature are rated fair. For water year 2016, records for water temperature are rated good. For water year 2017, records for water temperature are rated good.

For water year 2018, records for water temperature are rated good.

Beginning in water year 2019, water temperature records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".
