03038000 CROOKED CREEK AT IDAHO, PA
LOCATION - Lat 40°39'17", long 79°20'56" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Armstrong County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010006, on right bank at downstream end of old bridge abutment at Idaho, 0.4 mi downstream from Keystone Generation Station, 1.5 mi downstream from Plum Creek, 1.8 mi upstream of bridge on SR 210, and 2.4 mi west of Shelocta.
DRAINAGE AREA - 191 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1385: 1938, 1945.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1937 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods published in WSP 1305.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and concrete weir control. Datum of gage is 960.7 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to November 3, 2023, the datum of gage was reported as 961.04 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Flow regulated to some extent since March 1968 by Keystone Lake 7 mi upstream, usable capacity, 22,010 acre-ft. Consumptive water use as a result of evaporation from operation of steam-electric plant 0.4 mi upstream, which began during July 1967, can amount to as much as 30 ft³/s.  Records are considered good except those for estimated daily discharge, which is poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar 1936 reached a stage of 18.6 ft, from floodmark, discharge, about 19,000 ft³/s.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - October, 2013 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature probe interfaced with a data collection platform, collecting data at a 15-minute sampling interval.
REMARKS -

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.

For water year 2014, water temperature records are rated good. For water year 2015, water temperature records are rated good. For water year 2016, water temperature records are rated fair.  For water year 2017, records for water temperature are rated good. For water year 2018, records for water temperature are rated fair. Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".

All surface water records for this station starting in WY 2019 may be considered good, except where estimated, which are considered to be poor. 

 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - Maximum, 25.1°C, August 12, 2016; minimum, -0.1°C, several days in winter months.
