03039000 CROOKED CREEK AT CROOKED CREEK DAM NEAR FORD CITY, PA

LOCATION - Lat 40°43'13", long 79°30'42" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Armstrong County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010006, on right bank 0.4 mi downstream from Crooked Creek Dam, 3.5 mi south of Ford City, and 6.7 mi upstream from mouth.

DRAINAGE AREA - 278 mi².

REVISIONS HISTORY - Revisions: Prior to November 3, 2023, the datum of gage was erroneously reported as 799.51 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - 1910-91, 2005-2009 (discharge measurements only), 2010 to current year.

GAGE - Datum of gage is 798.0 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to November 3, 2023, the datum of gage was erroneously reported as 799.51 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite and landline telemetry at station.

COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.

REMARKS - Flow completely regulated since 1940 by Crooked Creek Lake, 0.4 mi upstream and since 1968 by Keystone Lake, combined capacity 115,910 acre-ft. Records are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor .

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: December 2008 to current year.

INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature sensor, interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval.

REMARKS -

Interruptions in the record were due to equipment malfunctions.

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

For water year 2017, water temperature records are rated poor.For water year 2018, water temperature records are rated fair. Beginning water year 2019, water quality records are not rated "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 33.1°C, Jul 27, 2012; minimum, -0.3°C, several instances in winter months.
