03041500 CONEMAUGH RIVER AT SEWARD, PA
LOCATION - Lat 40°25'09", long 79°01'35" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Westmoreland County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010007, on left bank at upstream side of bridge on State Highway 56 at Seward, 2.0 mi downstream from Findley Run, and 9.0 mi northwest of Johnstown.
DRAINAGE AREA - 715 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY -

WDR PA-78-3: 1936 (M), 1977 (M).

Revisions: Discharge for the period Feb. 16-17, 2018, was revised on Feb. 20, 2020, based on changes to the stage-discharge rating.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1938 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,075.6 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to December 5, 2023, the datum was reported as 1,076.01 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for this station is provided by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Flow regulated by steel mills and reservoirs above station; the eight most effective reservoirs have a combined capacity of 51,850 acre-ft. Maximum peak stage of 27.06 ft. from outside high water mark. Records are good except those for estimated discharge, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar 18, 1936 reached a stage of 26.4 ft, from floodmarks, discharge, about 75,000 ft³/s, determined by contracted-opening measurement at site 6.7 mi downstream, adjusted for inflow.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 2013 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - October 2013 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature probe sensor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval. 
REMARKS -

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. 

For water year 2014, records for water temperature are fair, except for October 1-29, which are poor. For water year 2015, records are rated fair, except for January 27 to April 8, which are poor. Interruptions in record were due to equipment malfunctions. For water year 2016, records are rated fair.  For water year 2017 records are rated fair, except for August 2 to September 30, which are rated good..  For water year 2018 records are rated poor. 

Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".

 

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Water Temperature: Maximum, 29.5° C, August 13, 2016; minimum, -0.1° C, many days in winter months.
