LOCATION - Lat 38°48'27.0", long 79°44'15.0" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Randolph County, WV, Hydrologic Unit 05020004, on right bank at downstream side of bridge on State Secondary Route 22, at Bemis, 0.6 mi upstream from Fishing Hawk Creek, and at mile 39.9.
DRAINAGE AREA - 114 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR WV-79-1: 1978(P).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - February 1922 to December 1925 (daily discharge), October 1973 to September 1979 (daily discharge and peaks). August 2019 to current year (stage only).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry.  Datum of gage is 2,572.82 ft above NAVD 88.  Superseded datum, 2,574.06 ft above NGVD 29.  Feb. 17, 1922 to Dec. 31, 1925, nonrecording gage on downstream side of bridge at datum 2.18 ft lower.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar. 13, 1918, reached a stage of about 13.1 ft (2,574.06 ft datum). Flood of July 29, 2001, reached a stage of 7.47 ft, discharge 4,200 ft³/s.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 14,600 ft³/s, June 2, 1974, gage height, 8.64 ft, from floodmark, from rating curve extended above 6,100 ft³/s; maximum gage height, 9.62 ft, Jan. 26, 1978; minimum discharge, 9.5 ft³/s, Sept. 9, 10, 1976; minimum gage height, 0.43 ft, Aug. 31, 1925 (2,574.06 ft datum).
