LOCATION - Lat 41°02'12", long 80°32'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Mahoning County, OH, Hydrologic Unit 05030103, on left bank 150 ft upstream from Hwy bridge in Lowellville, 1 mi upstream from Ohio-Pennsylvania State line, and 3 mi downstream from Yellow Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,073 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1555: 1946(M), 1952(M), 1956. WSP 1907: Drainage Area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Continuous discharge gage 1942 to 1991, 2012 to current year; recording crest stage gage 1992 to 2011.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 796.57 ft (NAVD 1988). Prior to July 2015, datum was 796.84 ft (1912 adjustment). Prior to Oct 26, 1944, nonrecording gage at site 300 ft downstream at same datum.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained in cooperation with Ohio Environmental Protection Agency and Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS - Oct. 1, 2013 to Nov. 16, 2016; Records good, except for Apr. 7, 2015 to May 22, 2016; records fair, and for periods of estimated record, which are poor.  Nov. 16, 2016 to Oct. 18, 2017; records fair.  Oct. 18, 2017 to Apr. 9, 2018; discharge records fair, except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.  Apr. 9, 2018 to Nov. 14, 2018; discharge records good.  Record quality ratings may not be included in the water-year summary for approved records newer than 11/14/2018.  Record quality is still being rated internally.  For questions about record quality ratings, please send email to: gs-w-oh_NWISWeb_Data_Inquiries@usgs.gov.
Flow regulated by 5 flood control reservoirs at points 21 mi to 58 mi upstream and by reservoirs on Squaw Creek, 15 mi upstream; on Dry Run, 9 mi upstream; and on Yellow Creek, 5 mi upstream. WATER TEMPERATURE: Oct. 1, 2013 to Dec. 6, 2018: records good. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Oct. 1, 2013 to Dec. 6, 2018: records good except Oct. 1, 2013 to Oct. 31, 2014, Dec. 5, 2014 to Jan. 22, 2015, May 21, 2015 to Aug. 10, 2015, Oct. 12, 2016 to Aug. 14, 2017, and Oct. 18, 2017 to May 29, 2018, which are fair and Mar. 11, 2015 to Apr. 8, 2015, and May 22-23, 2017, which are poor. 
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in March 1913 reached a stage of 17.8 ft.

INSTRUMENTATION - Design Analysis 522+ attached to YSI 6820 V2 Sonde with specific conductance, water temperature and dissolved oxygen probes set to a 15-minute recording interval.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum: 44.4 °C, Aug. 19, 1955; minimum: -0.1 °C, several days during winter months. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum: 1,410 microsiemens, Feb. 20, 2014; minimum: 160 microsiemens, Feb. 11, 1959. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum: 18.0 mg/L, Feb. 20, 2021; minimum: 0.0 mg/L, many days in 1963-1965.
