LOCATION - Lat 37°53'58", long 86°42'20" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Perry County, IN, Hydrologic Unit 05140201, at Cannelton Dam on Ohio River at Cannelton, In., 0.7 miles upstream from Indian Creek, 3.3 miles upstream from Lead Creek and at mile 720.8.
DRAINAGE AREA - 97,000 mi².

Water-stage recorders for Tailwater and Headwater.

Datum of Headwater gage, located at the end of the upstream Lock wall, is 372.98 feet above NAVD of 1988, 373.33 ft above NGVD of 1929, and 374.00 ft above Ohio River Datum (COE 1912).

Datum of Tailwater gage, located at the end of the downstream Lock wall, is 346.98 feet above NAVD of 1988, 347.33 ft above NGVD of 1929, and 348.00 above Ohio River Datum (COE 1912).  This is considered the primary gage.

REMARKS - Daily discharge computed from headwater stage, gate openings, and hydroelectric plant flow furnished by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District. Flow regulated by Ohio River system of locks, dams, and reservoirs upstream from station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum instantaneous gage height, 52.42' on March 8, 1997; maximum instantaneous discharge, 768000 ft³/s on Feb. 26, 2018. Lowest daily mean, 1570 ft³/s on August 30, 2015.
