05374900 ZUMBRO RIVER AT KELLOGG, MN
LOCATION - Lat 44°18'43", long 92°00'14" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SE 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.22, T.110 N., R.10 W., Wabasha County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07040004, on right bank on downstream side of U.S. Highway 61 at northwest corner of Kellogg and approximately 4 miles above mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,400 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1975 to September 1990, October 2009 to present.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 669.47 ft. above sea level (NGVD of 1929).
REMARKS - Gage-height record was furnished by Minnesota Deparment of Natural Resources. Records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are fair to poor and periods of poor gage-height record, which are fair.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - A discharge of 53,000 ft³/sec occurred on Sept. 24, 2010 at station 05374000, 30 miles upstream. This was the greatest on record.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Aug. 1975 to Nov. 1981; March 2011 to current year (seasonal record only).
COOPERATION - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor March, 2011 to current year, which provides continous readings. Sensor is hanging from a cable at the center of the U.S. Highway 61 bridge, on the downstream side, approximately 4 miles above mouth.
REMARKS - This site is part of a statewide sediment study. The objectives of the study are to collect site specific data for streamflow, cross-sectional suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) and point samples of SSC, turbidity, and water transparency at selected stream sites in Minnesota. Beginning in 2010, continuous turbidity monitoring was incorporated at this site. Monitoring is done seasonally during open-water period.
