LOCATION - Lat 46°17'52", long 103°55'03" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.30, T.133 N., R.105 W., Slope County, ND, Hydrologic Unit 10110203, near north side of west end of bridge on U.S. Highway 12 at the east edge of Marmarth, 1.5 mi downstream from Little Beaver Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 4,640 mi². approximately.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 896: 1938-39. WSP 1086: 1943-44. WSP 1279: 1943(M), 1945-46, 1948. WSP 1439: 1950 (calendar year figures).

PERIOD OF RECORD.--DAILY GAGE HEIGHT--October 2000 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 2688.10 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (NGVD29) datum was converted to NAVD88 datum using the National Geodetic Surveys VDATUM transformation tool in November, 2017. Prior to October 1, 2017, land-surface datum was published as 2,686.32 ft above NGVD29. From June 23, 1950, to September 2, 1957, non-recording gage at site 90 ft upstream at present datum. Prior to June 23, 1950, various non-recording gages on former highway bridge at present site and datum.
REMARKS - Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - According to local residents, the greatest known flood prior to 1953 occurred in June 1907 (stage unknown). Other major floods reached stages of about 21.5 ft in March 1913, 19.7 ft in March 1920, and 20.2 ft in May 1929. These stages are not comparable to stages during period of record, owing to construction of levees.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum peak flow, 45,000 ft³/s, March 23, 1947, peak stage, 21.7 ft.
