LOCATION - Lat 43°18'20", long 103°49'14" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SE 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.36, T.8 S., R.2 E., Fall River County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10120106, on right bank at downstream side of bridge on old U.S. Highway 18, at Edgemont, 300 ft downstream from Burlington Northern Railroad bridge, and 600 ft upstream from Cottonwood Creek.

DRAINAGE AREA - 7,171 mi² of which 1 mi² probably is noncontributing.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1903 to November 1906 (no winter records), April 1928 to February 1933 (monthly discharge only), October1946 to current year.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 3,416.32 ft above NAVD88. Prior to Dec. 1, 1906, nonrecording gage 20 ft upstream at datum 0.7 ft lower. Apr. 11, 1928, to Feb. 28, 1933, Oct. 4, 1946, to Oct. 23, 1947, and Jan. 11, 1961, to Apr. 24, 1963, nonrecording gage, and Oct. 24, 1947, to Jan. 10, 1961 and Apr. 25, 1963, to Sept. 30, 1972, water-stage recorder all at present site at datum 2.00 ft higher.

REMARKS -

Accuracy of records for water years prior to 2014 are noted in the individual Annual Data Reports for those water years. For water years 2014 onward, records good except for June 20-25, 2014, Aug. 6-19, 2014, and July 15, 2015 to Jun. 27, 2016, which are fair and estimated discharges, which are poor, unless otherwise noted. Record quality ratings may not be included in the water-year summary for approved records newer than 09/30/2018. Record quality is still being rated internally. EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of May 12, 1920, reached a stage of 13.0 ft and May 1, 1922, 14.0 ft, present datum, from floodmarks at railroad bridge.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Minimum daily discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, Jan. 5, 1947, no flow at times in most years.
