LOCATION - Lat 44°22'23", long 100°22'03" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 SW 1/4 sec.32, T.111 N., R.79 W., Hughes County, SD, Hydrologic Unit 10140101, on left bank downstream from Dakota Minnesota and Eastern Railroad bridge, 1.3 mi upstream from Bad River, 5.8 mi downstream from Oahe Dam, and at mile 1,066.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 243,500 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1929 to September 1965, October 1988 to current year (daily gage height). Daily discharges, October 1929 to September 1965.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,415.48 ft above NAVD88. Datum was converted to NAVD88 datum using the National Geodetic Surveys VDATUM transformation tool. Prior to conversion to NAVD88 on Oct. 1, 2019 datum was published as 1,414.26 ft above NGVD29. Prior to Mar. 11, 1932, chain gage at same site at datum 2.00 ft higher.
REMARKS - For Oct. 1, 2013 to Sept. 30, 2022, records good except those for Dec. 12 - 15, 2014, Apr. 13 - 21, 2022, Oct. 3 - 26, 2022, Nov. 9, 2022 - Jan. 20, 2023, and Feb. 7 - Mar. 3, 2023, which are fair. Stage regulated by Big Bend Dam approximately 82 mi downstream. Flow regulated by Oahe Dam 5.8 mi upstream. Gage heights for period of October 1965 to September 1988 in files of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Daily discharge for period October 1996 to September 2000 in files of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
