LOCATION - Lat 36°45'35.1", long 90°23'16.2" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.02, T.24 N., R.6 E., Butler County, MO, Hydrologic Unit 11010007, on right bank at City Light and Water Plant in Poplar Bluff, 1,500 ft upstream from bridge on Business Route 60, 4.8 mi downstream from Indian Creek, and at mile 211.2.

DRAINAGE AREA - 1,245 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct 1936 to Sep 1937, Oct 1939 to current year. Gage-height records collected at site 1,800 ft downstream Sep 1923 to Jul 1935 and since Jul 1935 at site 1,500 ft downstream, in reports of the National Weather Service.

Datum of gage is 317.47 ft. above NAVD of 1988.

From June 8, 1955, to July 11, 1985, at the present site. The datum of gage was 317.38 ft. above NGVD of 1929.

From Oct. 1, 1940, to June 7, 1955, at the US Highway 60 bridge 1,500 ft. downstream from the present site. The datum of gage was published as 317.40 ft. above NGVD of 1929.

From Oct. 1, 1939, to Sept. 30, 1940, at the US Highway 60 bridge 1,500 ft. downstream from the present site. The datum of gage was 319.40 ft. above NGVD of 1929.

From July 17, 1935, to Sept. 30, 1939, at the US Highway 60 bridge 1,500 ft. downstream from the present site. The datum of gage was 319.40 ft. above NGVD of 1929.

From Sept. 23, 1923, to July 16, 1935, at the Vine St. bridge 1,800 ft. downstream from the present site. The gage datum was 319.29 ft. above NGVD of 1929.

REMARKS - Accuracy of records is discussed in the annual Station Analysis archived at the USGS MO Water Science Center. Flow regulated by Clearwater Lake (station 07062000), 47 mi upstream, since June 1948.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar 1904 reached a maximum discharge of 100,000 ft³/s, and flood of Mar 12, 1935, reached a stage of 21.1 ft, present datum (affected by levees constructed since 1904).

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - Maximum discharge 52,600 ft³/s, May 12, 1943, from rating curve extended above 44,000 ft³/s; maximum gage height, 20.80 ft, Jun 10, 1945; minimum discharge observed 236 ft³/s, Aug 12, 1944.
