07144780 NORTH FORK NINNESCAH RIVER ABOVE CHENEY RESERVOIR, KS
LOCATION - Lat 37°51'43.91", long 98°00'49.61" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in sec.19, T.25 S., R.6 W., Reno County, KS, Hydrologic Unit 11030014, on right bank at upstream side of county highway bridge, 10 mi south of Hutchinson, 18.1 mi upstream from Cheney Dam, and at mile 33.8.
DRAINAGE AREA - 713 mi² of which 163 mi² probably is noncontributing.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 1965 to current year.
GAGE -

Water-stage recorder. The datum of the gage is 1,456.37 ft. above msl. (NAVD88) (Static survey,OPUS-RS) The previous datum was 1,456.05 ft. above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Feb. 12, 1996, at site 4 miles downstream, datum was 1,431.75 ft above NGVD of 1929.

REMARKS - Satellite telemeter at station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD -

Flood (old site) of Apr. 20, 1974 reached a gage height of 10.80 ft, discharge 43,000 cfs. Flood (old site) of Oct. 30, 1979 reached a gage height of 11.65 ft, discharge 87,000 cfs.

On May 24, 2007 a gage-height of 13.26 ft with a computed discharge of 6,550 cfs was recorded at this site. Additionally, measurement No. 633 was made at the current site later in the day at a gage height of 12.69 ft and discharge 5,060 cfs. This measurement was made with a AA Price current meter.

On July 6, 2010 a gage-height of 14.26 ft with a discharge of 8,460 cfs was recorded at this site. Measurement No. 686 was made at the current site later in the day at a gage height of 13.92 ft and discharge of 7,990 cfs. This measurement was made with the Rio ADCP.

On Oct. 10, 2018 a gage-height of 14.94 ft with a discharge of 9628 cfs was recorded at this site; this discharge was estimated based on channel definition provided by flood Measurement No. 793 obtained on May 21, 2019.

On May 21, 2019 a gage-height of 14.65 ft with a discharge of 8801 cfs was recorded at this site. Measurement No. 793 was obtained later that day at a gage-height of 14.58 ft and discharge of 8520 cfs. This measurement was obtained with a RiverRay ADCP.

REMARKS - Interruptions in record are due to ice conditions or malfunction of the recording instrument or sensors. Instruments used to measure turbidity conform to ISO 7027 standards and early measurements were made using Yellow Springs Instrument (YSI) 6026 sensor or a Yellow Springs Instrument (YSI) 6136 sensor. As of 2013, turbidity is measured using an EXO sensor.
