LOCATION - Lat 36°29'06", long 96°03'36" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.07, T.23 N., R.12 E., Osage County, OK, Hydrologic Unit 11070107, on right downstream side of Shafer bridge 2.2 mi. upstream from Candy Creek, and at mile 54.0.
DRAINAGE AREA - 369 mi². From automated delineation using 10-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data dated 10/01/2006 and Watershed Boundary Dataset dated 10/01/2006, using Albers Equal-Area Projection, North American Datum 1983.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR 2012: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1945 to current year, published as Bird Creek near Avant Oct. 1, 1973, to Sept. 30, 1993.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. U.S. Army Corps of Engineers satellite telemeter at station. Datum of gage is 646.39 feet above NAVD 88. Current datum was determined by a GNSS Level II RTN survey Check in/Check out completed on NGS PID GG0969 with -.02/-.03 difference. Benchmark check in made on NGS PID DN4405 -.05 difference and tied to RM-12. Prior to 10/01/2021 datum in use was 646.28 feet above NGVD 1929.  Prior to Oct. 1, 2005, water-stage recorder at bridge .2 mile upstream at datum 5.00 ft. higher. Flow slightly regulated since 1958 by Bluestem Lake (capacity 17,000 acre-ft). Flow regulated since March 1977 by Birch Lake (capacity 19,200 acre-ft), located on Birch Creek, 12.1 mi upstream. Small diversions also exists upstream.
REMARKS -  Quality of data for all periods can be obtained by contacting the Oklahoma-Texas Water Science Center.

All estimated periods are considered poor unless noted otherwise. 

The period of record prior to regulation encompasses the water years from 1946 to 1976. The annual mean discharge for this period was 200 cubic feet per second.
