LOCATION - Lat 34°02'30", long 94°37'11" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in SW 1/4 SE 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.07, T.6 S., R.26 E., McCurtain County, OK, Hydrologic Unit 11140108, on right downstream bank on U.S. Highway 70, 2.0 mi west of Eagletown, 10.7 mi downstream from Broken Bow Dam, and at mile 8.9.

DRAINAGE AREA - 800 mi². from automated delineation using 10-meter National Elevation Dataset digital elevation model data dated 10/01/2006 and Watershed Boundary Dataset dated 10/01/2006, using Albers Equal-Area Projection, North American Datum 1983.

REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1211: Drainage area. WSP 1241: 1924-26, 1930 (M), 1936-37 (M), 1938, 1939 (M) 1942 (M). 2012: Drainage area.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1924 to December 1925, October 1929 to current year. Published as Mountain Fork River near Broken Bow 1924-25 and as Mountain Fork River near Eagletown 1929-60. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1311.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 333.84 above NAVD of 1988 determined by GNSS Level II Survey using Alltera network with RTK Trimble R-10 tied to RM-14 by USGS Personnel on 08-06-2019. Prior to 08-06-2019 Datum of gage was 333.87 ft above NGVD of 1929. See WSP 1920 for history of changes prior to July 23, 1950.

REMARKS -

10/01/2023 - 09/30/2024: records rated good.

Flow completely regulated except for 33 mi² intervening area, since October 1968 by Broken Bow Lake (station 07338900).

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Aug. 18-19, 1915, reached a stage of 26.4 ft, from information provided by local resident, discharge, 92,500 ft³/s.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge for period of record, 101,000 ft³/s, May 20, 1960, from rating curve extended above 65,000 ft³/s. Maximum gage-height for period of record, 26.73 ft, May 20, 1960.

AVERAGE DISCHARGE FOR PERIOD PRIOR TO REGULATION - Water years 1925, 1930-68, 1,291 ft³/s.

REMARKS -

Accuracy Rating for Water Year 2024:

Temperature: Good; No fouling or calibration drift corrections were applied throughout this year per USGS and OTWSC policy. No data loss occurred. Due to restrictions from this site installation, this sensor cannot be removed to undergo NIST checks. Instead. the OTWSC water quality specialist has suggested using a NIST-certified thermistor in the field multiple times throughout the year to verify the sensor accuracy at different temperature ranges. This method of NIST check did occur within this year, but water quality staff should make an effort to increase the frequency.
