GAGE - Water-stage recorder and acoustic velocity meter. Datum of gage is 1.50ft below NAVD88, GEOID 12b.
REMARKS -

Discharge records poor.
Discharge and gage height affected by wind and tide at all stages. Reverse flow at times.
Satellite telemetry at station.

Site destroyed in August of 2014. Miscellaneous discharge measurements collected from August 2014 until September 2015.

Positive and negative flows at this site are defined by direction and are specified to be parallel to the channel at the gage location. The positive flow direction is south-southeast. Streamflow at this site is affected significantly by astronomical tides. Astronomical tides cause significant cycles of approximately 24.84 hours at this site. Because a different portion of the 24.84 hour tidal cycle is averaged in successive daily (24-hour) computations, a systematic secondary oscillation, unrelated to basin hydrology and having a period of about two weeks may be apparent in daily data published from November 1997 to September 15, 2015

Maximum positive discharge estimated discharge due to rating model exceedance during Hurricane Barry in July 2019. Maximum positive discharge and maximum recorded gage height both occurred during Hurricane Barry during a period of the Bayou Chene closure, approximately 5.25miles northeast of the intersection of Bayou Penchant and Bayou Chene.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum positive discharge, 30,200 ft3/sec, Jul 13, 2019, estimated; maximum negative discharge, -13,100 ft3/sec, Sep 25, 2005; maximum gage height, 7.32ft, Jul 13, 2019; minimum gage height, -0.39ft, Jan 29, Feb 4, 2000.
