LOCATION - Lat 29°16'47", long 98°03'12" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Wilson County, TX, Hydrologic Unit 12100304, at left downstream abutment of bridge on FM 539, 1.1 mi upstream of Gum Branch, 4.1 mi downstream of Alum Creek, 0.5 mi north of Sutherland Springs, and at mile 27.5.

GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 371.986 ft. above NAVD of 1988. The NAVD of 1988 datum was determined by a level 2 GNSS survey (Reference Frame NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000). (GEOID18) by USGS on November 01, 2024, and tied to TBD. Prior to November 01, 2024, the datum of gage was 371.01 ft. above NAVD of 1988 as determined by RTK on Dec. 21,2005. Date of gage installation. June 22, 1924 to April 30, 1929, nonrecording gage on right bank at upstream side of highway bridge (datum unknown). Satellite telemeter at station installed Dec. 21, 2005
REMARKS - There are several diversions for irrigation above station. Much of the base flow is discharge from the Carrizo Sands in the vicinity of Sutherland Springs. No flow at times. Some records listed in the "Period of Record" for surface water and water quality may not be available electronically.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage known according to local resident was at gage height of about 39 ft in Sept. 1913 (determined by levels to approximate mark indicated by local resident and considered reliable).
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Oct. 2010 to the present.
INSTRUMENTATION - Unshielded, standard 8-in. diameter, tipping-bucket raingage, mounted on top of the gage shelter 10 ft above land surface, with satellite telemeter.

REMARKS - Water-quality data collected for the 2014 water year at this location are associated with Investigations Project: Surface Water - Ground Water Interaction in the Lower San Antonio River Watershed. Water-quality data collection began in Water Year 2007 and was discontinued in Water Year 2008, as noted above in the Period of Record.
