REMARKS - Water years 2014-2018; records poor. Water year 2019; records fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Flows completely regulated since November 1973 by Cochiti Dam (station 08317300), 47 mi upstream. Possible regulation by operation of reservoirs on Rio Chama and by flood- and silt-detention reservoirs on Galisteo Creek and Jemez River (stations 08285000, 08286900, 08317900, 08328500). Diversions upstream from station for irrigation of about 714,000 acres, several hundred of which are downstream from station. Since 2007, the quality of the records have been affected by an adjustable-height diversion dam operated by the City of Albuquerque 1,300 feet below the gage. The dam is used to divert San Juan-Chama water for the City of Albuquerque drinking water supply. The dam affects gage-height by variable back water conditions. Sediment that accumulates behind the dam during times of lower flow is flushed out periodically by the City lowering the dam, or by high flow.
