LOCATION - Lat 40°02'07.0", long 77°18'29.1" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Cumberland County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02050305, at Michaux State Forest, near Pine Grove Furnace.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 44 ft. Upper casing diameter 6 in; top of first opening 19 ft, bottom of last opening 42 ft. Drilled unused observation well, cased to 19 ft, open hole.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 963.64 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: top of casing, 1.56 ft above land-surface datum, Jun. 20, 1951 to Jun. 2, 1999; top of plywood shelf, 3.29 ft above land-surface datum, Jun. 2, 1999 to present. Elevation of land surface is from survey.
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1951 to March 1955, instantaneous water levels obtained several times per month. July 1955 to current year.
GAGE - Data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval since April 2023; prior, 60-minute recording interval. Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - On June 6, 2013 well depth was found to be 44 ft by sounding with steel tape; depth previously reported as 37 ft. Daily maximum water levels are available for this well for the period of record. For some years, daily minimum and daily mean water levels may also be available from the USGS Pennsylvania Water Science Center Office.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Prior to October 2000, the extremes shown were based on extremes of the daily maximum depth below land-surface datum. Since that date, the extremes are based on the instantaneous depth below land-surface datum. Highest water level, 8.96 ft below land-surface datum, May 14, 1998; lowest, 33.50 ft below land-surface datum, Feb 3, 1955.
