GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 50.41 ft. Upper casing diameter 4 in; top of first opening 11 ft, bottom of last opening 52 ft. The hole for well WLN09 (aka: StoneEt1) was drilled with an 8-inch-diameter, rotary drill rig to a depth of 52 feet. The well is constructed of an open hole (no well screen), attached to 10 feet of 4-inch-diameter, schedule-40 steel well casing. The well casing measuring point (stickup) was 2.66 feet (1218.06 ft. NAVD88, +/- 0.1 ft.) above land surface when measured on 07 July 2008. The open interval (open hole; no well screen) of the well is between 10 and 52 feet below land surface and the total well depth is 52 feet below land surface.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 1,215.4 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Measuring point: MP is top of steel casing, 2.66 ft above land-surface datum, Jul. 1, 2008 to Dec. 18, 2017; Top of 4-inch steel casing. Black mark and file mark on top of aluminum locking cap ring, 2.61 ft above land-surface datum, Dec. 19, 2017 to present. The current measuring point is a black mark on the top of the 4-inch steel well casing, which was 2.61 feet above land surface on 19 Dec. 2017. Elevation of measuring point was 1218.01 plus-or-minus 0.1 feet above sea level, National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, based on a differential GPS survey on an unknown date.
PERIOD OF RECORD - Water levels were measured periodically from 04 November 2003 to the present. Water levels were recorded quarter-hourly from 19 Apr. 2004 at 12:15 CDT to 15 May 2010 at 11:30 CDT. Water levels were recorded hourly from 19 December 2017 at 12:00 CST to 22 August 2018 at 16:00 CDT.
GAGE - Continuous water level, water temperature, and battery voltage were measured with a previously-used OTT Orpheus Mini 0-10m pressure transducer, nominally accurate to 0.01 feet and 0.1°C, respectively. These data were recorded hourly by the same OTT Orpheus Mini pressure transducer, which has a data logger built into it. Water level, water temperature, and battery voltage data were recorded hourly from 19 December 2017 at 12:00 CST to 22 August 2018 at 14:00 CDT. The data logger was housed inside the 4-inch steel well casing. The well has an aluminum locking well cap and pad lock. The gage was powered by 3 AA alkaline batteries that were inside of the data logger communications rod. Data was downloaded manually and no telemetry or phone line is wired into the gage.

Continuous water level and water temperature were measured during 19 Apr. 2004 to 15 May 2010 with a KPSI 500 submersible pressure transducer, nominally accurate to 0.01 feet and 0.1°C, respectively. The KPSI 500 submersible pressure transducer was replaced on 15 Feb. 2011 at 15:52 CST with a Design Analysis H-310 submersible pressure transducer (SN: 3647), nominally accurate to 0.01 feet and 0.1°C, respectively. However, none of these data were ever accurately measured and/or collected and/or archived properly. No continuous water level and water temperature data exist during 15 May 2010 to 18 December 2017. Continuous water level, water temperature, and battery voltage data were recorded quarter-hourly by a Campbell Scientific, Inc. CR10 data logger (SN: unknown). The data logger was housed in a 14-inch X 16-inch grey fiberglass shelter attached to the well casing. The gage was powered by a 10W solar panel and a 12V battery. Data was downloaded manually and no telemetry or phone line was wired into the gage.

Continuous precipitation were measured during 19 Apr. 2004 to 15 May 2010 with a Texas Electronics, Inc., unheated, tipping-bucket rain gage (SN: unknown) measured precipitation and was nominally accurate to 0.01 inches.

An unheated Onset RG3 rain gage was deployed to the station during 09 Apr. 2018 at 10:45 CDT to 22 Aug. 2018 at 19:00 CDT. The rain gage was mounted on an arm that extends off the west side of the solar panel/antenna mast. The rain gage datalogger recorded quarter-hourly rainfall data. Rain gage was nominally accurate to 0.01 inches.
COOPERATION -

Well WLN09 (aka: StoneEt1) was operated as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's Climate-Response Network (CRN) program during 19 Dec. 2017 to 22 Aug. 2018.

This site was also monitored during 2003-2011 for the Decorah Shale groundwater study as a cooperative study between the U.S. Geological Survey and the City of Rochester.

CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Precipitation were recorded quarter-hourly from 19 Apr. 2004 at 12:15 CDT to 15 May 2010 at 11:30 CDT. Precipitation were recorded quarter-hourly from 09 Apr. 2018 at 10:45 CDT to 22 Aug. 2018 at 19:00 CDT.
INSTRUMENTATION -

Precipitation is measured during 09 Apr. 2018 at 12:45 CDT to the present with an Onset RG3 tipping-bucket rain gage, which is accurate to 0.01 inches. The rain gage is unheated and uncovered during the winter. Thus precipitation data during freezing periods (about December through early April) result from melting of snow during warm periods and do NOT represent actual precipitation.
