LOCATION - Lat 44°39'21.92", long 92°41'25.56" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 NW 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.25, T.114 N., R.16 W., Goodhue County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07040001, 5 miles south and 8 miles east of Hastings, Minnesota. The land surface at the site is 689.34 plus-or-minus 5 feet above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 17.66 ft. Upper casing diameter 2 in; top of first opening 12.9 ft, bottom of last opening 17 ft. The hole for well PI98-12 was drilled with an 8.25-inch-diameter power auger to a depth of 24 feet. The well is constructed of a 4.3-foot-long, 2-inch-diameter, flush-threaded, 10-slot PVC screen, attached to 15.79 feet of 2-inch-diameter, flush-threaded, PVC well casing. This casing stuck up 2.99 feet above land surface on May 18, 2011. The open interval of the well is 12.9 - 17.2 feet below land surface and the well is 17.7 feet deep, according to drilling log. A total well depth of 17.66 feet below land surface was measured on May 18, 2011, and this measurement was updated in GWSI database.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 686.6 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: MP is mark on casing, not from protection post. MP height is from RP, not LS. RP is 0.21' ALS, 2.79 ft above land-surface datum, Nov. 6, 2012 to present. The current measuring point is the top of the well casing, which was 2.78 feet above land surface on Nov. 6, 2012. Elevation of the measuring point is 688.15 plus-or-minus 0.5 feet above sea level, North American Vertical Datum of 1988, based on a 3-m LiDAR DEM. This measuring point should be used for all tapedowns from this point forward.
PERIOD OF RECORD -

Periodic water levels were recorded from Sept. 02, 1998 to May 18, 2011. Hourly water levels are recorded from 6 November 2012 to the present with a pressure transducer and data logger, except during the following periods:

29 Dec. 2012 at 00:00 CDT–24 Jan. 2013 at 23:00 CDT: reason unknown.
22 Mar. 2016 at 23:00 CDT–19 May 2016 at 08:00 CDT: transducer failure.
25 Jul. 2016 at 23:00 CDT–28 Jul. 2016 at 00:00 CDT: reason unknown.
07 Jul. 2017 at 17:00 CDT–17 Oct. 2017 at 09:00 CDT: data recording failure possibly caused by transducer data wire shorting from removal of transducers at adjacent wells.
31 Oct. 2017 at 10:00 CDT–05 Nov. 2017 at 15:00 CST: intermittent station power failure.
17 Nov. 2017 at 19:00 CST–18 Nov. 2017 at 10:00 CST: intermittent station power failure.
16 Dec. 2017 at 20:00 CST–18 Dec. 2017 at 09:00 CST: intermittent station power failure.
22 Dec. 2017 at 20:00 CST–23 Dec. 2017 at 10:00 CST: intermittent station power failure.
05 Feb. 2018 during 01:00–12:00 CST: intermittent station power failure.
17 Feb. 2018 during 10:00–21:00 CST: intermittent station power failure.
24 June 2018 at 15:00 CST–13 July 2018 at 23:00: the overall trend of the hydrograph during this period is likely good but the "noisiness" of the hydrograph is likely from the transducer going bad and not real WL change.
14 July 2018 at 00:00 CST–22 March 2019 at 14:00 CST: failure of the station voltage regulator and pressure transducer.
28 October 2019 at 12:00 CDT–30 July 2020 at 9:00 CST: datalogger failed to record water levels or recorded water levels were zero for unknown reasons.

GAGE - Water level is measured with a WaterLOG H-3123 submersible pressure transducer accurate to 0.01 feet. Shelter temperature, and battery voltage are measured by a Campbell Scientific, Inc. CR10 data logger, which also records all data hourly. The data logger is housed in a 14-inch X 16-inch grey fiberglass shelter attached to the antenna mast. The gage is powered by a 20W solar panel and is telemetered by a Sierra Wireless RV50 cellular modem.
COOPERATION - Well PI98-12 is operated in cooperation with the Prairie Island Indian Community.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -

Quarter-hourly precipitation is recorded from 5 Nov. 2012 at 17:00 CDT to the present, except during the following periods:

29 Dec. 2012 at 00:00 CDT - 24 Jan. 2013 at 23:00 CDT: due to an unknown reason.
12 Jun. 2015 at 21:45 CDT - 14 Jun. 2015 at 22:00 CDT: due to unknown reason.
18 Aug. 2015 at 00:00 CDT to 01 Oct. 2015 at 11:15 CDT: due to a clogged raingage funnel.
12 Nov. 2015 at 22:45 CDT - 13 Nov. 2015 at 23:00 CDT: due to unknown data logger failure.
08 Aug. 2016 at 21:45 CDT - 14 Sept 2016 at 10:00 CDT: due to plugged raingage funnel.
31 Oct. 2017 at 10:00 CDT–10 May 2018 at 11:45 CDT: due to raingage multiplier reset to zero from intermittant power failures.  No precipitation was recorded.
14 July 2018 at 00:00 CST–22 March 2019 at 14:00 CST: due to failure of the station voltage regulator and pressure transducer.
28 October 2019 at 11:45 CDT–30 July 2020 at 9:30 CST: datalogger failed to record water levels or recorded water levels were zero for unknown reasons.

INSTRUMENTATION - Precipitation is measured with a Texas Electronics TRP-525 tipping-bucket rain gage, which is accurate to 0.01 inches. The rain gage is unheated and uncovered during the winter. Thus precipitation data during freezing periods (about December through early April) result from melting of snow during warm periods and do NOT represent actual precipitation.
